Looking back down the road,14th August 2010 must have been the start of the best journey of her life. Joanna Chan Lai Cheng's(above) hard work and sacrifices finally were put to test as she represented the Nation at the inaugural Youth Olympic Games 2010, Singapore for the sport of Rowing. Joanna was a part of the 22 rising youth rowers competing for the Youth Olympic glory.
The 17yrs old ACJC student performed very well in her races as she raced her heart out in all the rounds of her Women's Single Scull event. Training under coach, Sasa Mimic, Joanna rised each and everytime improving the water times and fitness importantly. The overall results was a moment to remember as she came in first in her FINAL D race with a time of 4 minutes 12.58 seconds to beat three other rowers from Austria, Portugal and Sudan in the 1000m.
The former Fairfield Methodist Secondary School student started rowing in 2008 and kept growing since. Coaches and team members believe that Joanna has the potential to go further if she keeps up her hardwork. Achieving an entry to the SEA Games squad in 2011 would most probably be her next target.
SRA wishes Joanna all the best in her rowing career.
